TPA Guidelines – Update
By Andrew J. Pisani
Last month, I wrote about new guidelines for TPA’s – Temporary Places of Assembly. We’ve since met with the DOB on this topic, and there’s additional details to share.
If a building has an elevator violation and the event is above the 1st floor, the commissioner may still grant the approval of the TPA. This is case by case, and starts with a letter submitted by ownership that the violations has been corrected and they are in the process of 1) waiting for the elevator inspection and 2) waiting for a letter from the elevator company stating that the elevator has been inspected and that they are in safe operating order. The letter must state that the defects in the violation have been addressed and corrected.
While it’s no guarantee, the obvious first step to regaining TPA rights is to fix any open issues and violations.
