New Year, New Code, Let’s Get Started
By Frank Fortino
First off, I’d like to wish all of our Clients and Industry colleagues a Happy New Year. We’re ever thankful for the trust that you’ve put in us to handle the tremendous slate of projects we participated in throughout 2014.
Everyone on the Metropolis team understands the value and commitment that our clients have made by partnering with us — whether it’s a tenant build-out, a major alteration or new building. Each of these projects – large scale and small – are important to us, and we pledge 100% commitment to making sure that every job we’re involved in is a successful one. We look forward to continuing our hard work with another strong year in 2015.
We’re excited to kick off 2015 with the New 2014 Building Code. We’ve studied the 2014 Code thoroughly, and feel confidant in our knowledge of both the differences and changes between this version and the last. We are ready to hit the ground running.
I encourage our industry colleagues – architects, designers and engineers – to use our team of Code consultants to clarify the nuances of the 2014 Code. Consultants are a great resource to help interpret and coordinate different designs. In the simplest terms, our knowledge will help to ensure that designs and plans submitted are capable of moving forward under the New Code.
Specific areas to be careful of when designing under the 2014 Code are:
– Fire protection includes standpipe, sprinkler
– Fire alarm, emergency generator
– More importantly egress
I look forward to working hard in 2015, and continuing to participate in the evolution of our wonderful, world famous skyline.
