It’s Not All Business at the DOB

By Andrew J. Pisani

Long hours, complex mental challenges, grueling conditions – just another week at the DOB. But in this case, we’re describing the work outside of the office, the race day conditions during Sunday’s New York City Marathon.

They say that the challenge of running a Marathon appeals to a certain type of person – someone who is driven to ‘find the extra gear’ and push through the seemingly impossible. So it should be no surprise that our very own Department of Buildings Commissioner, Rick Chandler, proved that he had the will to run through the pain and finish strong.

What’s striking about Marathon training is that there is no down time, and preparation takes months of consistent work. Commissioner Chandler managed to fit this training in with his already demanding and overbooked schedule.

If you feel that you have too much on your plate, it’s time to think again. Congratulations Commissioner Chandler, on a run to inspire us all!
