Professional Certification Program – BB 2016-10
By Penny Laughlin
For the last 20 years, the DOB has had a Professional Self Certification Program. The logic was straightforward – Registered professionals had the training and experience, as well as integrity to stand by their own work.
With the release of BB 2016-10, the DOB has filled in some of the gaps and loopholes that appeared through the life of the program. This bulletin revises the established operational procedures for the Professional Certification Program, which allows a Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA), as an applicant, to certify the job’s compliance with the New York City Construction Codes, Zoning Resolution and all applicable laws and rules on related application(s).
The updated program has vastly more details and requirements, what application types can be Professionally certified and which cannot; as well as the operational guidelines. All of the details are found within the Bulletin, which is right here.
