Holiday Construction Embargo Runs 11/5/21 – 1/2/22

While the 2021 holiday season may look a little different in New York City, some seasonal traditions endure unchanged. Specifically, it’s time to get ready for the Department of Transportation’s annual holiday construction embargo.

The DOT holiday construction embargo starts at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, November 15, 2021, and continues through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2022. Roadway and sidewalk construction activities will be restricted to emergency work, provided that DOT receives an emergency number. Utility cover openings will also be restricted unless DOT issues an emergency authorization number.

Any non-emergency construction permits issued before the embargo announcement date will be suspended during the embargo period for the locations identified on the DOT website.
