Infusion of Capital for the DOB

By Brian Lafferty

Mayor de Blasio recently announced significant investment in NYC Department of Buildings. The new capital follows years of steady improvement to technology and systems, and will allow for new initiatives to improve service and efficiency across the board.

The DOB will receive $120 million over four years. This will allow for an additional 320 new positions, including 163 plan examiners and 38 development inspectors. The new hires should happen in the next 2 years.

The reform will also include new tablets for inspectors, and add 10 new project advocates over 2 years. The DOB will continue to invest in its electronic services, which will continue to improve efficiency across the board.
