DOB Releases New PW1 Form to Support LL 56 of 2016
By Penny Laughlin
As reported last month, the Department of Buildings (DOB) has implemented new permit fees for new buildings and alterations, effective March 5, 2018. The changes result from Local Law 56 of 2016, enacted on June 9, 2016. The updated fee structure reduces permit fees for one-, two- and three-family dwellings and affordable housing, while increasing fees for larger construction projects or buildings.
PW1 Revisions
Released on March 27, 2018, the new PW1 (Revised 4/18) now requires Total Building Square Footage for Alteration Type 1 and Alteration Type 1, OT “No Work” project types. When using eFiling, this information goes in the section on Cost Information.
Transition Period
DOB will accept previous versions of the PW1 (Revised 12/14 and 3/18) until April 29, 2018. However, applicants must provide the total construction floor area in Section 8 for the above-mentioned project types. This information is not required for Alteration Type 2 and Alteration Type 3 applications.
Beginning April 30, 2018, DOB will only accept the new version (Revised 4/18).
Amendments and Corrections
When submitting an amendment or correction to an application filed on or after June 9, 2016, through March 4, 2018, the entire job will be re-calculated under the new fee structure. Applicants will need to pay the additional fees to the DOB, in addition to providing the total building square footage.
