Elizabeth Maddox
Assistant Project Manager/Signoff Coordinator
Metropolis Team Member Since . . . November 2018
Industry Experience
Elizabeth joined Metropolis Group after serving in the U.S. Army for four years. She honed her project management skills as the Executive Officer of an Infantry Brigade Headquarters Company. Stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky., her responsibilities included managing logistical operations for more than 300 soldiers. “Being second-in-command to my commanding officer, I planned and facilitated exercises and training,” says Elizabeth. “I was also responsible for getting the proper equipment for soldiers and making sure everyone was up to date in terms of both medical and physical readiness.”
When the native New Yorker learned about the opportunity at Metropolis, she was eager to learn about the code consulting aspect of the construction industry. “My father is a contractor, and my sister is an architect,” she says. “The family connection drew me in. I’ve always helped my father in the past, and I wanted to see what I could contribute in this industry.”
Role at Metropolis
Elizabeth spends each day managing the details of the signoff process, closing out the many applications that accumulate over the course of a project. She applies the same discipline and strict attention to detail from her military career to her construction projects, some of which have been open for years. “I’ve picked up a lot of new material in a short amount of time, and I’ve learned to adapt and to be resilient.”
While juggling multiple projects, Elizabeth makes clients feel their projects are receiving top priority as she works through each hurdle in turn. “Already, Elizabeth has become an invaluable part of the Metropolis team,” says Operations Manager Tynesha Goode. “She embraces the challenge that each day brings, and she takes pride in completing the finished product.”
Favorite Project
Two months after joining Metropolis, Elizabeth was assigned to a large, high-profile project in the financial district. “A government agency was rebuilding nine floors, and I was responsible for spearheading all the open applications,” she recalls. “It was a great opportunity to show what I was capable of. It’s still an ongoing project, but so far, 28 out of 36 applications have been closed out without any issues.”
Best Part of the Job
“I love the daily variety and challenge. I may be doing the same thing, but no two projects are the same,” says Elizabeth. With older projects and buildings, the process may become complicated, but she enjoys the problem-solving aspect of her work. “It keeps me on my toes.”
Not-So-Hidden Talent
In her spare time, Elizabeth is having fun renovating her home. She and her husband had purchased a property in foreclosure, which required a great deal of work—much of which they have done themselves. “Now, we’re doing the finishing touches—the paints, the interior design. I’ve enjoyed learning about this process,” says Elizabeth. “It’s been a challenging yet rewarding experience. We’re definitely proud to see everything come together.”
